A new study has revealed that the car that people drive is a good indicator of their age, as Mitsubishi, Mazda and Volkswagen are most popular with car users from 18 to 34 years old.
The study by TrueCar, a car research company, was based on sales data for 2009 and compared age with all the major car brands.
So perhaps you may be driving a car above your age range and you might need to rethink your choice.
Other figures indicate that 18.3% of 18 to 34 year olds drive a Mitsubishi, 18% drive a Mazda, 17.6% drive a VW and 15.6% drive a Mini. Whereas, on average, car manufacturers like Kia, Hummer, Volvo and GMC appeal to older drivers.
It seems that part of the appeal of Mitsubishi, Mazda, Volkswagen and Mini appeal to be that they have a racy image and associated with high-paced sporty driving.
In particular the Mazda is best known for its fun and sporty Mazda3 hatchback and Miata roadster. The car manufacturer also builds versions of the Lancer sedan with improved performance for off-road rallying.
This is also true for the Mini which has become associated with the Italian Job and high-speed chase scenes.
All of these cars are also relatively inexpensive making them great for the younger driver, who is on a budget and perhaps cannot afford a more expensive model.
So if your current car doesn’t seem to match your age then maybe it is time to lease a Mitsubishi, Mazda, Mini or Volkswagen instead?
