The Volkswagen Kombi, or VW Camper van, has had its production line stopped after 63 years of continuous production.
Many of us thought that this van was gone forever a few years ago, however, in Brazil the camper was still going strong – until recently. Brazil has built various versions of the famous rear-engined van since 1957.
Compared to the 21.5 million VW Beetles that have been manufactured, 3.9 million VW Camper vans doesn’t seem that much. However, it was a very influential car of the 1960s, where it got the name of ‘hippie van’ from its popularity. Known by Volkswagen as the Type 2, this was the car from Volkswagen that followed the VW Beetle.
During the time of the VW Camper van, the 1960s, it was loved by many – backpackers, surfers and anyone who wanted to look cool while on the road. The Camper Van is still available but for a huge premium on the price, you can get one of the last Volkswagen Kombis for roughly £42,000. Due to this cars social prowess and legend, the price tag doesn’t seem that bad and I could see myself investing in what will soon be an antique.
The final batch of Kombi Last Editions will be available for you to buy early next year. This final edition of the popular van is to celebrate 56 years of production in Brazil and will only run for 600 units. The Kombi Last Editions will have a special two-tone white and blue paint-job and each model will be kitted out with a 001 to 600 plaque on the dashboard.
At Central Contracts, we have lots of Volkswagen car leasing offers, including ones for the legendary Volkswagen Beetle, which was the VW Camper Vans predecessor.
